Frequently asked questions

Do I need a lawyer to send a cease and desist?

No. Cease and desist letters can be sent by anyone. They are demands, not court orders. That said, for harassment, defamation, or IP claims, a lawyer's involvement often makes the letter more persuasive — and avoids accidental admissions.

Is a cease and desist legally binding?

No, by itself. A cease and desist is a written demand. It is not a court order and does not compel the recipient to comply. Its purpose is to put the recipient on notice and create a paper trail before any litigation.

Should I send it by registered mail?

If you want proof it arrived, yes. Add Canada Post Registered Mail at checkout ($31 all-in): we email you the tracking number, and Canada Post records the delivery. That is stronger evidence than a mailing date alone if the matter goes further.

Will I have proof I sent it?

Yes. You receive a dated email confirmation when the letter is submitted, and the order page records the mailing date. The exact PDF that was printed is downloadable from the order.

Can I include exhibits or screenshots?

Yes. Up to five attachments (PDFs or images) can be printed and mailed with the letter — for example, screenshots of defamatory posts or copies of the disputed trademark filing.
