Where to mail your tax return: Sudbury Tax Centre
Mail your paper T1 income tax return to the Sudbury Tax Centre, 1050 Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury ON P3A 5C2 if you live in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, most of Ontario — including Toronto and Ottawa — or the Montréal, Outaouais, or Sherbrooke regions of Quebec. Note the unusual setup: T1 returns use a street address, while every other piece of CRA correspondence for Sudbury goes to a PO box.

Key facts
- The CRA considers a return filed on time if received or postmarked on or before the due date — normally April 30, or June 15 if you or your spouse are self-employed (any balance owing is still due April 30).
- Sudbury is the only major tax centre where T1 returns use a street address (1050 Notre Dame Avenue, P3A 5C2) and everything else uses a PO box (Box 20000, Station A, P3A 5C1).
- Residents of Montréal, the Outaouais, and Sherbrooke file their federal T1 in Sudbury — not Jonquière, even though they live in Quebec.
- Quebec residents who file in Sudbury still send their provincial TP-1 return separately to Revenu Québec; the Sudbury Tax Centre only handles the federal return.
- PostPal deposits your letter with Canada Post the next business day — order early for deadline filings.
How to mail it, step by step
- 1
Check that Sudbury serves your region
Sudbury handles paper T1 returns for the four Atlantic provinces, Nunavut, the Ontario regions of Barrie, Belleville, Kingston, Ottawa, Peterborough, St. Catharines, Sudbury, and Toronto, plus the Quebec regions of Montréal, Outaouais, and Sherbrooke. Western Canada and the six southwestern Ontario cities (Hamilton, Kitchener, Waterloo, London, Thunder Bay, Windsor) file in Winnipeg; the rest of Quebec files in Jonquière.
- 2
Pick the right address for what you are sending
A T1 return goes to the street address: 1050 Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury ON P3A 5C2. Anything else — replies to CRA letters, supporting documents, other forms — goes to PO Box 20000, Station A, Sudbury ON P3A 5C1.
- 3
Complete, sign, and bundle your return
Attach every schedule, slip, and receipt the T1 guide requires, then sign and date the return. The CRA does not treat an unsigned paper return as filed, so this signature is worth a double check.
- 4
Get it postmarked by the deadline
A Canada Post postmark on or before the due date counts as on time. Upload your return to PostPal and we print, envelope, and hand it to Canada Post within one business day — $6 flat, with a dated confirmation for your records.
Common questions
I live in Montréal — why does my federal return go to Sudbury and not Jonquière?
It surprises a lot of filers, but the CRA assigns the Montréal, Outaouais, and Sherbrooke regions to the Sudbury Tax Centre. Only residents of the rest of Quebec mail their federal T1 to Jonquière. Your provincial TP-1 return still goes to Revenu Québec either way.
Why does my T1 return use a street address instead of a PO box?
That is just how Sudbury is set up: paper T1 returns are delivered to 1050 Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury ON P3A 5C2, while all other correspondence is collected at PO Box 20000, Station A, Sudbury ON P3A 5C1. Use the street address only for the return itself.
Where do Toronto and Ottawa residents mail their paper tax return?
To the Sudbury Tax Centre, 1050 Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury ON P3A 5C2. Sudbury covers most of Ontario, including Toronto, Ottawa, Barrie, Belleville, Kingston, Peterborough, and St. Catharines. Only six southwestern Ontario cities file in Winnipeg instead.
Is my return on time if it is postmarked on the due date?
Yes. The CRA considers a return filed on time if it is received or postmarked on or before the due date. Keep proof of mailing when you file close to the deadline — PostPal emails you a dated confirmation when your letter is deposited with Canada Post.
Where do I send a reply to a CRA letter if Sudbury is my tax centre?
First check the letter itself — the CRA often prints a specific reply address. If it does not, send your reply to PO Box 20000, Station A, Sudbury ON P3A 5C1. Do not use the Notre Dame Avenue street address for anything other than a T1 return.
I live in Nunavut — does everything I send the CRA go to Sudbury?
Your T1 return does, yes: 1050 Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury ON P3A 5C2. But not all Nunavut mail follows the return — for example, Canada Child Benefit applications from Nunavut go to the Winnipeg Tax Centre. Always check the address listed for the specific form.
